HERE'S SOMETHING WE DON"T SEE EVERYDAY...HOW TO MONETISE A DOT-MOBI SITE

Although there remains less options to monetize a dot mobi site, a number of methods have emerged since the advent of the domain extension. This article looks at the five most common methods, and provides a sidebar with a list of mobile advertising networks and their URLs. Whether or not you've developed your dot mobi domain(s), there are ways to earn money from them.

If your domain's not developed...
Use a Parking Template Companies such as Sedo have designed a mobile-friendly parking page template for .mobi domains. This optimized page accommodates all mobile web browsers. All .mobi domains parked with Sedo automatically default to this page. Visit students.mobi or headhunter.mobi to view the parking page.

Lease your domains

Leasing domains used to be complicated, but newer companies like Lease This have simplified the process. You register with Lease This, then import your domains. Advertisers browse the list of domains available, choose one or more of yours they like and lease it. Traffic from the leased domains points to the advertiser's website. You can continue to monetize non-leased domains in your normal way. The site reports an increased demand for niche markets and geographically targeted domains, whilehigh-traffic domains and easily branded domains (one to two word dot coms) are in continuous demand.

If your domain is developed...
Embedding ads on your site
The list of mobile friendly advertising networks has exploded with self-serve networks like Google AdSense leading the way. Refer to the sidebar accompanying this article for a list of networks in the categories of general audience ads and adult ads. Mobile device capabilities have come a long way, so the days of offering only text ads are gone. Some companies, such as AdMob and Medio have stuck with text ads for now though, but DeckTrade serves both text ads and small banner ads. Compensation varies by company. Some pay by CPM (cost per thousand page impressions) some by CPC (cost per click), so read the fine print carefully so you know what to expect.

Add PayPal Mobile If you offer products or services on your site, offer PayPal Mobile Checkout. With 153 million PayPal accounts out there, you're doing yourself a disservice if you don't offer it as a payment option. It's easy for customers to use. They're already accustomed to the Web version and the mobile version is quite similar. Users can log in their mobile number and pin if they've got their mobile account activated or they can use their regular PayPal email address and password.

Driving traffic to your site with advertisements or keywords
Refer again to the sidebar of advertising networks and buy some ads. Get the word out about your great site. Register your site with all the search engines using the best keywords possible. Most modern Web design software analyzes your site's content and generates meta tags for it. These are located in the header of the Web page. The meta tag titled meta name="keywords" for your site are the minimum keywords you should list. Another way to locate appropriate keywords is to search for your competition, then look at page source of their site's pages to learn what meta tags their content generated. You'll want to draw a higher result than your competitors, so bid for the top spot on each of the top keywords used in both sites.
